The coin is made of nickel brass and weighs 6 grams. The obverse side of the coin features the Ashoka Pillar's lion capital, the value, and the lettering "भारत INDIA सत्यमेव जयते ₹ 5". The reverse side features a picture of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi in the center, with the lettering "Shri mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board" in Devanagari script on the upper periphery and in English on the lower periphery.
