In this book, Marx's Notes cover more than a thousand years of Indian history -- from the mid-7th to the mid-19th century, from the first Moslem invastions to August 2, 1858, when the British Parliament passed the India Bill legalizing the annexation of that country. The early period, ending in the middle of the 18th century, takes up less than one-third of Notes. The rest of the book is devoted to the history of the British conquest of India. Notes on Indian History holds a prominent place among the manuscripts written by Marx in the last year of his life.
