MUST READ!!
I HIGHLY recommend the Book Thief. In this tragic story, Liesel Meminger loses her brother, but gains a new connection with her foster father, Hans Hubermann, who played her the accordion, read her a book she found at her brother's grave, fallen out of the pocket of a young gravedigger "The Gravedigger's Handbook", encouraging her with every word to steal a few more books she finds in the mayor's wife's library's and the book burning ceremony. I fell in love with every page of this book, as every piece of paper consists of a roller coaster of emotions and indescribable feelings. This book captures the essence of Germany from a special young girl's eyes. From an innocent wannabe Jesse Owens to a German fist- fighter sitting in your basement. Markus Zusak has created a masterpiece of something that is written, but cannot be captured in words. Narrated by Death themself, and when Death tells a story, you really have to listen. This sensation of a book observes Death's three encounters with Liesel, associating each with the colours of the German flag, Black, Red and Yellow and the colours of the sky. Waxy yellows, Chocolate browns and Blood red, all setting the scene of Germany, Himmel Street (Heaven Street), except it wasn't really Heaven, but it wasn't Hell either.
...And I am willing to admitt as I was finishing up reading the book I was sobbing, big, fat tears streaming down my face... This book is full of both beautiful and sad moments... I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves Historical Fiction, anything about WWII, or just loves books
